Cuteness

Joshua was so funny today after I picked him up from school. He was telling me all about the two ladies that help the kids during lunch. "You know, Sister Buck and the other lady. Sister Buck told me you have to eat the main part of your lunch first and then the other stuff. Don't eat the other stuff and then the main part. The main part of your lunch is a sandwich. So be sure to pack me a sandwich every day, Mom. Sister Buck helped me. The other lady did too. Well, she didn't help me. She asked if we had any brothers or sisters. I told her I did. And you know what she told me?"

"What?"

Giggling ...

"Oh no! I can't tell you. "

I told him that he could, it'd be our secret. Then I listed a number of people whom we wouldn't tell what the "other lady" said.

"No! I'm not going to tell you. I can't!"

"Did she say that you're CUTE?"

Hysterical giggling from the back seat now ... "Yes! How did you know? Don't tell anyone!!!!!! "

Of course *I* think he's cute ... and his reaction to the comment was even cuter!!

And Then There Was School

Joshua's first day of kindergarten went well. He woke up in a great mood, ate breakfast, got dressed, and brushed his teeth with no problems! He proudly marched into the school, put his lunch in his locker, and headed to his room. He quickly found his name and unpacked his supplies. He was eager to start school! I snapped some pictures and he hammed it up LOL! He even KISSED ME when I left ;o)

That night when he got home he was beaming. My mom had this to say about her conversation with Joshua: When I talked to him tonight he was excited about telling me all the things he did the first day of school. Then he very excitedly said "Guess What?" I of course responded in the same excited voice "What"? Then, as only Josh would do, he told me there was only two more days of school and he gets THREE days off. Should be a long year for him if this is the reaction after the first day. All I could say was "That's cool." And laugh when I got off the phone.

So the most memorable part of his day was that he didn't have to go for a few days LOL!

The second morning getting ready for school wasn't as pretty. Joshua didn't like his gym clothes, the shirt was too baggy and it was the wrong color, besides the fact that he now hated his new tennis shoes. I shouted a few "Get dressed anyways!!!!!!!" comments in his direction while I was showering. Although he was curled up in a ball on the couch, GROWLING at anyone that came near, he was dressed when I got out of the shower. Jeff and I basically ignored him, and before he left for school he had decided he liked how baggy his shirt was. LOL!!

This is going to be such a fun year!

Kindergarten Here I Come

Picture this. 12 hours before I have to take Josh to his first day as a big kindergartener. He strolls down the hallway and spots his school clothes on the couch. He picks them up shoes and all, growls (yes really -- we are quite used to it), and throws them accross the living room while proclaiming, "I don't want to wear a uniform!". This would be the same child that wore his school shoes all day and told Brittany how much he loves them.

Transitions aren't easy for Josh. I've prepared as well as I can. I'm really glad Jeff was outside when this happened so I could handle this the way I knew was best, not the way Jeff would've. I softly explained, "I'm sorry you don't want to, but you have to. That is the rule." I said nothing about what he did. I know Jeff would've wanted to correct him for throwing his things. Honestly it was just Josh's way of releasing the stress and nervousness of what tomorrow brings. I know this. It's just the way Josh is. Until I had Josh I would've seen his actions as a "brat child that needs a parent to keep him in line". Now I know that his actions aren't bratty at all really. He's just overly sensitive. He experiences things on much greater levels of emotion than I think I'm even capable of. So, I let the time pass and he moved on.

Jeff bathed him and put him to bed. At his request I came and layed with him. I alternated rubbing his back and craddling him so I could rock him in bed. We talked about what things the morning would bring. We even talked about wearing the uniform --- and he asked if he could sleep in it LOL! Oh how things change ...
